The October 11th program for Manatee River Garden Club from 1-2 pm is “Orchids to Know and Grow.” Roy Krueger, President of Manatee Orchid Society, will describe various orchids that can grow here. “Research and Clinical Work in Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Disorders”
The presentation will describe the work of the Rosekamp team to develop and evaluate the consequences of mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI). Our team has developed a model for the mTBI condition that demonstrates the dramatic role of neuroinflammation which, once sustained, persists throughout life and can have major negative impacts. Our platforms have led to the identification of several possible new therapies and also the identification of lifestyle changes that can influence the severity of neurological conditions caused by mTBI. “Is My Forgetfulness Normal?” Dr. Brandi will discuss signs of normal aging, and signs of potential concern. She will also review the early signs and symptoms of memory disorders.

The 2nd Annual Sarasota Celtic Music Festival will feature eight bands – three top national bands and five local or regional bands – will play various styles of Celtic music in 45- and 90-minute sets. Numerous craft beers will be on tap. Irish Dance schools will perform, as well as Sarasota's own all-female pipe & drum band, Blue Skye. Celtic food, clothing & jewelry vendors will be there. A Morning at the World Rowing Championships With Michael P. Danziger
Come meet Michael Danziger, author of "Small Puddles: The Triumphant Story of Yale's Worst Oarsman. Ever." at the 2017 World Rowing Championships (http://wrch2017.com), the most important international rowing regatta in the world, in Sarasota-Bradenton Florida, September 25, 26 and 27 at 9 a.m. Michael will be signing books in one of the vendor tents with the help of the Sarasota Barnes & Noble book sellers. All author proceeds from the sale of the book are going to the education nonprofit, The Steppingstone Foundation (http://www.tsf.org/about-us/co-founders/), which he founded. To date the Foundation has helped nearly 3,000 students prepare for and enter college.

A Nazi in the Family
Jens M. Albiez, who grew up in Germany in the 1960s, will discuss how the different phases of discovering, questioning, and understanding The Third Reich evolved. He will describe the impact the Weimar Republic and the Nazi regime had on his family and how Germany and the Germans dealt with the accumulated guilt and shame. Albiez is a financial advisor with Waddell & Reed, Inc., and holds an M.B.A. from Cologne University. He moved to Sarasota in 2001 with his wife and four daughters.
