Florida West Ballet: La Bayadere

The artistic director of FWB, a ballet academy in St. Petersburg, is Dusanka Gradiski Ivanova, who studied at the Vagonova Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia, as well as ballet schools in her native Macedonia and in Bulgaria. "La Bayadère" is a story ballet originally choreographed by Marius Petipa in 1877. Most contemporary performances derive from a later version choreographed for the Mariinsky Ballet (where George Balanchine studied as a child) in 1941. It's the story of tale of a Hindu temple dancer and a young warrior kept apart in life and united only in death.
